I've been keeping up with your story. I heard today that you lost. It's a shame when a town will do that on one complaint. I used to think I would like to live in Troy, but now I think it sux. I live near Brookville, in the country. I have 9 pet hens. I just want you to know if you need to find a good home for them I will take them and take good care of them. I am so sorry you didn't win your case. I hope the city of Troy pays dearly for this.

Just read on the DDN website that you lost your battle. A crying shame if you ask me. That city does not want the reputation of allowing a couple of "country" chickens in their city. You want chickens - move to Covington or head to the Miami East area. I like where the city leaders state that the city ordinance is the ordinance - what a bloody copout. Typical of Troy government. We are too good to have some stinking chickens in our city. And while we are at it - you live in a historical area of town. Paint your fence only this color. Hell no we wont assist you in buying the paint. You have 30 days . . . . . . Just plain sad. Fight the muthas.

I am a fellow BYC member. My support and thoughts are with you both as the hearing comes up. I hope they get their heads out of that dark crevice and let your girls stay at home with you. I think it is ridiculous to have to fight something this ridiculous. I have 32 chickens and they are my pets. Some of them are ubber spoiled and I would not give them up without a fight or possibly moving. Good luck...let us know what happens.

I too have pet chickens that are outlawed in my town. I had a small bantam rooster for 8 years. He fought a raccoon and died. I now have 5 beautiful hens I got this year that are my little loves that I raised from chicks. I love having chickens. I fear the day this may happen to me. I keep my coop cleaner than most dog owners yards. The clucking is minimal, and not obnoxious. They control many insects, and will eat baby rodents. I have learned that chickens are legal in Chicago, Madison WI, and many other major cities with limits on numbers of course. And permits to own. My "Girls" are my pets. My neighbors like them. I wish you guys the best in your fight to keep them. Poultry is on a plate, I have birds.

What's the difference between a parrot and a chicken? About $3000 From someone who's had both parrots and chickens, they're very similar in size (depending on the breed,) noise, diet and smell. Chickens are just as loving and affectionate as any other pet - they also eat grass, weeds, bugs, small rodents, snakes, all my kitchen scraps and make me a few eggs for breakfast. The better question is WHY NOT chickens? I hope you get to keep your girls; I'd be devastated if I had to give mine up.
